Meet Julia Donaldson

Friday 19 March, 2pm

This special event, which is being held in partnership with Burnley Youth Theatre, provides an introduction to our Kicking Leaves Children's Literature Festival which will be launched in Autumn 2010. The event offers a unique opportunity to listen to one of the greatest writers for children of the 21st century. Although most famous for The Gruffalo (which was screened by the BBC over Christmas), Julia has written over 150 books...

This rare and special event is open to all teachers at Pennine Lancashire schools, but we also welcome attendance from other interested professionals, parents and carers - please spread the word!

The event, which will be held at Burnley Youth Theatre, will include a bookshop where Julia's publications can be bought. She is happy to sign copies after her presentation.

Tickets cost £5 and are limited; first come, first served! Call 01282 421986 to book your place.

Bombs and Blackberries

Julia is also a children's playwright and Burnley Youth Theatre will be presenting her play Bombs and Blackberries on the same evening as the talk and the following day - Friday 19 and Saturday 20 March at 7.30pm.

The play is for older KS2 children and is set in Manchester during World War II.

'With Britain at war, the Chivers' youngest children have to leave their parents to live in the countryside. They are delighted to be brought back home when it looks as though the Germans aren't going to invade after all. But the air-raid siren goes off and this time it's frighteningly real......'
