Telling Tales
This project was the first part of a programme of work which focused on the question: “How can stories be made?”
120 children from Year 1 & Year 2 were taken to experience an installation for theatrical storytelling in the M6 Theatre, Rochdale. In addition to their teachers, the children were joined by musician Ben McCabe (More Music in Morecambe) and storyteller and environmental artist Gordon MacLellan (Creeping Toad. The project was then developed over a six week residency.
Steve Hutton, used illustration to explore story creation through character development with the same children. He was then joined by drama worker Thea Soltau who worked with the children dramatising their stories. Musician Ben McCabe led the children to create musical compositions which reflected the creativity and progression of story-writing to produce ‘story mats’ and environmental artist, Gordon MacLellan then led children on transforming journeys into stories.
