Reality Check

Until Saturday 17 April 2010

Checking your e-mail, granary bread, Doctor Who on TV, brown, blue, a strike of yellow, postman at the door, mandrake root, newspaper, Nepalese healing drum, table, model tank, Chillout 3, toothpaste, glasses, Vietnam war, runic inscription, pills, pink form...........................I Thaumaturgise.

That which we call everyday reality is a fragmented high speed chase through a world of sensory overload. To take even a slight glimpse to the left or right at any one second is to be engulfed in new and before unimaginable stimuli.

Often colourful and hectic, John Spedding's work portrays a world of paradoxes, where old meets new and where the known passes drinks across the table to the unknown, where the relevant shares bed space with the random and the esoteric dances across the ice hand in hand with the exoteric. A realm where the fragmented are drawn together to create imaginary speaks of having a past and that offers the illusion of owning a narrative that waits to be unfolded in the mind of the viewer.
